"Bale is teetotal" is an awkward sounding sentence. Even if it may or may not be technically correct the way it reads causes the reader to pause because of the way it sounds not feeling natural.
"Bale is a teetotaler."
"...follows the teetotal way of life."
"...is a proponent of an alcohol-free life."
"...advocates for teetotalism."
The entry on Collins Dictionary says "He will not be having a celebratory drink, as he is teetotal".
[1] It is acceptable to use teetotal as an adjective just as much as "Bale is Welsh". Given Bale's reputation as one to speak through his football rather than the microphone, we don't know if he has "advocated" or is a "proponent" of not drinking, we just know he doesn't drink.
