van or Van?

Is the name "van Valkenburgh" or "Van Valkenburgh"? http://history.navy.mil/danfs/v1/van_valkenburgh.htm consistently uses V, but http://history.navy.mil/danfs/a11/arizona-ii.htm uses both. —wwoods 23:01, 15 November 2005 (UTC) reply

The name is Van Valkenburgh. You can take that on good faith since I am his great grandson.

That isn't necessarily that authoritative, surname spellings often change over generations, and it's even more likely that the mere case of a single letter can change easily. Thornfield Hall ( talk) 08:19, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Thornfield Hall reply
