Today (Friday, Dec. 11th, '09) on the
PBS Newshour, I _THINK_ that one of the "
Shields and Brooks" (probably
David Brooks (journalist)) commentators mention that Pres. Obama's Nobel Prize speech was inspired from one of Francis Lieber's books. Can anybody confirm this?

NOPE... It was
Reinhold Niebuhr's "The Irony of American History".

This article describes him originating from a Jewish family. The German language version does not mention Judaism at all. Neither article mentions conversion or baptism. So what was his religion? If he was Jewish, how did he deal with the notoriously antisemitic Jahn and other German nationalists? 2001:A61:609B:7F02:E8D5:25EB:9B7C:D5CF ( talk) 10:22, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
