This is a dubious statement, since it is well documented that the villages of Madraspatnam and Chennapatnam already existed in the area, which was far from barren -having been an arena for trade from the time of the Phoenicians to the Portuguese, before the British arrived. ( Azariahmoreno 03:46, 20 May 2007 (UTC)).
