( N chawlain 08:33, 22 May 2007 (UTC)) Some files are headed with the title "Open with" There are many options , how to select the right one If we select other than Default what will happen .How we can correct the mistake
Does it mean that file associations only exist under Microsoft Windows? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.20.211.215 ( talk) 16:28, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
I recall WINFILE.EXE would open a file with the correct program based on file extensions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.191.28.156 ( talk) 19:35, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
As file associations exist in a vast range of OS differing in implementation and scope.
This action is mentioned several times but not defined or described. Seems to me, it should be, in a linked article if not in this one. Jim.henderson ( talk) 18:19, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
I've been associating file extensions for decades, and never heard of verbs. That section is no help. Modern open programs typically have edit, print, etc, —if available,— as menu or button choices. Are we talking about
Command Line Arguments?...Do they belong here? That section should be clarified or deleted.

For example in the MS-Win section, the very last sentence is "The ability to configure advanced file association functionality, however, was removed in Windows Vista and later operating systems." WTF!!! That info should be at the start so most people can skip it. Also "This is true" should be changed to "This was true," etc. How much in this article is now history/obsolete?
