Should this be
opera buffa? I don't know the term opera comica. --

I've seen the term used in several articles and I vaguely remember learning about the term in my Music History class in college. It seems to often be used synonimously with opera buffa but I think it may have a broader application. I'm going to look in Groves and a few other sources. I'll let you know what I find. Opera comica is the term used in the article that is referenced.
