Shajhan: I added more detail to point 1 of the definition. I have also defined EDM as the movement of data from sets of systems A to a secondary system B or set of systems (B). This is because data management should not be constrained to the movement of data from source systems to a data warehouse. There are a number of reasons but the clearest is because it would exclude data quality management from the EDM umbrella. The movement of data catches all since it allows data flows using ETL tools where no data warehouse is involved. EDM fits into the BI arena, however, it should not be exclusively seen as a data warehousing activity as data cleansing and data quality work can be done and is often done without the use of a data warehouse. Also the movement of data from a legacy system to a new system would also be part of EDM and it could be effectively done without a data warehouse.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Shajhan ( talk • contribs) 11:55, 18 October 2006
