The term "end effector" is used in the same way in the study of kinematics as it is in graphics. Indeed, I would say that, really, the usage citce as coming from the computer graphics community really has its roots in the study of kinematics. Kinematics being crucial to robotics, I think that discussion of this sense belongs in the robotics portal. Since there's already a page on kinematics in Wikipedia, if someone builds a disambiguation page, they should link that page.

This page needs to be lengthened / improved. There should be a discussion of the differences between industrial end effectors and robot hands. (Possibly split robot hands into another page).

A listing of the general types of industrial robot end effectors is necessary: welders, grinders, deburrers, graspers, palletizers, etc. Also note that despite a standard interface on the robot side, these end effectors are typically custom made at great cost to suit the exact purpose of the robot.

A listing of the different types of robot hands is also necessary: parallel jaw, barrett, human-like... http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~amiller/graspit/ is a good reference.

I think End effector should become a disambig page, and there should be separate pages for each topic:

Agreed. As there is no opposition, I forked Industrial robot end effector and made this one into disambiguation page. Other separate pages would require a bit more content and I don't like stubs. The remark about computer graphics is so far adequate in the dab page.
I left iw:de and iw:et links in the dab page as their content is less specific. Couldn't find any guidelines about that.
I left {{Split}} in the new article, just in case; so far its talk page is empty. Don't know whether copying {{WikiProject}} is appropriate. After reading WP:SPLIT it is still not clear enough what to do with both talk pages. Let's hope that someone will clean it up :) saimhe ( talk) 11:13, 25 May 2009 (UTC) reply

How can we submit information for definitions and examples?
