I've started creating this in response to a discussion on [WT:Ships]. I have more work to do on it, but feel free to dip in in the meantime. Viv Hamilton ( talk) 19:42, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

My father (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers), now 97 recalls being on the Empire Star collier on the D Day landings. His recollection is that it was the last boat on the east of manoeuvre and that when the Germans started firing from the east, the Royal Navy sailed to the east of Empire Star and set up a smoke screen. He also remembers the coal dust coming out of 'every nook and cranny' when the big guns on the adjacent ships started to fire.

I'm not an expert in this area, but surely a mention of the Empire Windrush should be included on this page somewhere. I don't know where this should be included in this article, but given its significance in history I'm surprised there isn't something said about it somewhere here. Of course the Windrush has its own page, but there should be at least a link and a mention of it here. Thanks. RomanSpa ( talk) 12:59, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
