Somebody revert this article somebody vandalized it.
"The pair’s name comes from the 1984 novel of the same name by J. G. Ballard.[3]" - that's plain wrong.
Since Wikipedia's interface sucks as much as my english I will not edit the article by myself (limiting my contribution to this remark).
EOTS stated several times, that the name ist NOT derived from the novel/ movie. (They said it also during an interview on the german-french channel "arté", unfortunately that one is not available)
On Ireland's National Television: "Well, the name comes more from the idea of (and you'll see this in the ongoing videos) the fact that we're travelling around the world going to all the places of empires of the civilisation where the sun has been a theme of worship. It's not based on the Ballard novel nor the Spielberg film of the same name."

This band has an extremely strange, unique image. It would be quite interesting to include a section on this, if the information could be found. I'll begin looking. Crawf279 ( talk) 16:34, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello Ss112. Do you think it'll be appropriate if this page is moved to Empire of the Sun (duo)? I think that because the word band is inappropriate for a two-persons musical act and duo is the more appropriate word. - TheMagnificentist ( talk) 04:06, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
The result of the move request was: Not moved, per consensus here and also precedent set at Talk:The Ghost (Faroese band)#Requested move 28 July 2018 — Amakuru ( talk) 19:21, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
