There were 130 recipients of the EGM of whom 112 exchanged their awards for the GC. The present list of recipients include only one recipient who did not exchange his award for the GC. He was Guy Branch who was a fighter pilot killed in action during the Battle of Britain. Following the exchange there were only 18 recipients, four honorary recipients and 14 deceased recipients. The 18 recipients are Abdul Khadir Effendi Saleh, London Gazette 19 May 1939; Guy Rawston Branch, London Gazette 25 Mar 1938; Norman George Breadon, London Gazette 19 Nov 1935; Chitrabahadur Gurung, London Gazette 19 Nov 1935; Reginald Henry M Gray, London Gazette 31 Mar 1933; Paul Grieu, Honorary award; Camiel van Hove, Honorary award; John Howells, London Gazette 04 Jul 1924; James Letch, London Gazette 18 Nov 1938; Edward Letch, London Gazette 18 Nov 1938; Albert Lienzi Livera de, London Gazette 01 Jan 1935; Laurent Loussot, Honorary award; Thomas Gerald F McCombie, London Gazette 04 Jul 1924; James Smail, London Gazette 12 Nov 1937; Robert Smith, London Gazette 04 Jul 1924; John Thompson Swan, London Gazette 04 Jul 1924; Julien Tanguy, Honorary award; Adrian Sidney G R Trapman, London Gazette 01 Feb 1937. Added three more who now have articles: Dorothy Louise Thomas, Cecil Kelly and Abdus Samad Abdul Wahid Golandaz. Noting here so others can help work on those articles and/or assess for notability (some recipients are mentioned in other articles, rather than as stand-alone articles). Some articles may be better merged here as footnotes. Carcharoth ( talk) 07:30, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
This is the first sentence of the section recipients. In order to avoid duplication perhaps the sentence should be amended 'For the EGM recipients who became GC recipients following the 1940 exchange for the George Cross, see List of George Cross recipients'. All 111 recipients who were either living when the GC was announced or had been posthumously awarded EGM since September 1939 are already listed in the List of George Cross recipients. All names other than Guy Branch should he deleted from the list and the 17 others, four honorary recipients and 13 deceased recipients who died prior to announcement of the institution of the George Cross.
