As Elinor Ostrom is primarily notable as scholar, an her life is inextricable woven with her intellectual work, large part of the article ought to be organized around the areas of study that she undertook, why she was interested in them, and the theories that should be developed. This article should not seek to explain all of her theories in depth. Specific articles about the ideas are for that. The quality of this article of course depends on the quality of related articles.
I think this article should be organized chronologically so as to present Ostrom's overall intellectual and personal development over time. Theories should be well summarized but interleaved with the texts. Ostrom's later work is more about the synthesis of theory but she also has lots of empirical work e.g. about Watersheds, police departments and so on. The article should present this stuff too.
Here's a brief outline (in progress).

It has also been anounced (see http://info.uu.se/press.nsf/pm/uppsala.universitets.id55D.html) that Ostrom will receive a honorary doctor's degree from Uppsala University in the memory of Carl von Linné, in spring of 2007. PJ 10:54, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

If she's a member of the Chicago School, and she's won a Nobel Prize (which she just did today), shouldn't she be significant enough to have a link to her profile in the box for Chicago School Economists? Orpheus42 ( talk) 11:35, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
There is nothing at all about her background, where she was born, where she went to school until college.
Also, I'm a bit curious how a political scientist and a scholar whose main notoriety has been the study of diversity, wins the Nobel prize for economics. Perhaps, someone could explain. . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.133.254 ( talk) 18:03, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
The section on climate change is premature, it consists mostly of the two speculative sentences, "Elinor Ostrom's work may help fight climate change. Her work exploring how people come together to preserve their collective resources may provide important clues in addressing global warming." While the speculation is referenced, it's still speculation.
Has any major part of Ostrom's work been focused on climate change? That would merit a section. (I know she has an interest, for instance, she was one of the signers of this letter to Science, but is there more to it than that?) CRETOG8( t/ c) 18:03, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
I assume Ostrom is the name of her husband. What's her maiden name?-- Victor Chmara ( talk) 20:39, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
In the 'personal life and education section', there is missing information regarding Elinor Ostrom's rejection for an economics PHD: As a high school student, Elinor Ostrom had been discouraged from studying Trigonometry, as girls without top marks in Algebra and Geometry were not allowed to take the subject. She was consequently rejected for an economics PhD at UCLA [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whileworth ( talk • contribs) 10:29, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
Dr. Amavilah has reviewed this Wikipedia page, and provided us with the following comments to improve its quality:
"She conducted her field studies on the management of pasture by locals in Africa (e.g., Kenya) and irrigation systems management in villages of western Nepal (e.g., Dang Deukhuri) -- Reference: http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/economic-sciences/laureates/2009/ostrom-bio.html.
"As she describes it herself in the her Nobel Prize Lecture ( http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/economic-sciences/laureates/2009/ostrom_lecture.pdf), Ostrom's work in this regard challenged conventional wisdom, showing that common resources can be successfully managed without government regulation or privatization.[34]
We hope Wikipedians on this talk page can take advantage of these comments and improve the quality of the article accordingly.
