American South? Source: “ Eli N. Evans, a courtly Carolina Tarheel who rose to the upper ranks of the New York philanthropic world, but who left his biggest mark as the author of three books exploring the culture and history of Jews in the American South, including his own family, died on July 26 in Manhattan. He was 85.”

Passes DYK Check for date, prose size, length. No issues with neutrality, sourcing, and a
scan for copyvios is mainly turning up titles and quotations. Hook is properly formatted, is interesting enough, and fully backed by the source, which is used as an in-line citation in the article. This is my first DYK review, so let me know if I missed anything. --
