Suggest that the entries for the Seventh and Eighth dynasties be merged, since it appears as though growing academic opinion is that they collectively represent a set of minor kings who challenged the rule of those kings who formed the Ninth dynasty, based out of Herakleopolis. I'm going to suggest that we modify how we've got these pages together right now. The consensus I see is that there was probably not any seventh dynasty at all, and thus we should probably not discuss the eighth dynasty kings on the same page as the seventh dynasty is redirected to. There's quite enough discussion out there that we could have a meaningful seventh dynasty page on manetho's quote alone. As for discussing this period as a whole, that's what First Intermediate Period is for, I think. Thanatosimii 18:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

This ended up being a more extensive endeavour than I thought it would be (20+ articles), so I should add a note here, mostly for the record, I don't think anyone will object. I split the "combined" Seventh and Eighth Dynasties into two separate articles, the main article staying with the Eighth Dynasty. I think the combined form is ambiguous. Why are there two dynasties if they're actually just one? If the Seventh Dynasty does not exist, it might as well have its article to explain how it managed to survive in the dynasty list of scholars of Egypt for 23 centuries.
