C. I. Makaronas in his article "Via Egnatia and Thessaloniki", Studies presented to D. M. Robinson i (St. Louis, 1951) demonstrated that the Roman-era Via Egnatia passed near and may have touched the walls somewhere on the city's northeastern side and that the modern Odhos Egnatia does not occupy the same route. Most historians of the city maintain this view. I would add a citation if I had the book on hand. Aramgar ( talk) 23:21, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
