Should the lead mention Eden Alene's ethnic descent (
Ethiopian-Jewish) and the
Amharic transcription of her name (ኤደን አለነ)? RfC relisted by

Yes. Articles on people of mixed descent usually mention the person's origins in the lead. Examples of Eurovision entrants for whom this is the case include
Elena Paparizou ("Greek-Swedish singer") and
Vahe Tilbian ("Ethiopian singer of Armenian descent"). Therefore, this article should also state that Eden Alene is "an Ethiopian-Israeli singer" or "an Israeli singer of Ethiopian-Jewish descent". Secondly, besides the Hebrew transcription, the article should include the Amharic transcription of her name. Both her parents emigrated from Ethiopia, which means that the surname she inherited from her father (either a
patronymic as conventional in Ethiopia, or a family name as conventional in Israel) was originally written in the Amharic script. Although Eden is arguably a Hebrew given name, it also exists in Amharic, written as ኤደን.1 Ethiopian athletes with this name include
Eden Gebrehana and
Eden Bekele. Alene (አለነ) is an Amharic male given name2 and therefore also a patronymic (see:
Ethiopian naming conventions). Ethiopian athletes with this name include
Alene Emere Reta,
Shewarge Alene Amare and
Romeha Alene. In Ethiopian media, Eden Alene's name is usually written in the Amharic script, as seen in
Example 1 and
Example 2. Therefore, the Amharic transcription of her name is valuable information that should be included in the lead. ―

Comment I believe normally we do not list ethnic identity in the lede unless that person is notable for that identity (like
Anne Frank).
