Reverted because the article is about Viesturs, not the 1996 Everest disaster. I suggest a separate article on the disaster.
In any event, Viesturs was a relatively minor character in the disaster. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Elpoca ( talk • contribs) 08:12, 24 October 2005 (UTC).
Ed Viesturs did not summit Broad Peak in -97, he only reached a lower sub-peak with Veikka Gustafsson. For this reason Viesturs returned to the mountain in 2003 to make his 14-list true and complete.
Viesturs' degree from Washington State University is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DMV) and not "veterinary science". Big difference.
I think Viesturs played a significant roll in the disaster of '96. His tent and equipment were used by returning climbers, he carried Beck Weathers, who was left for dead, off the mountain and he tried to coax Rob Hall off the South Summit by radio for hours. He also discovered Rob's body on his way back up with the IMAX crew. His reasoning that too many climbers were on the mountain and his subsequent decision to head up earlier and return before the crowds probably saved his neck. ~~117th~~
the only American to have climbed all eight-thousander? Ivan Vallejo, from Ecuador, is not American? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.224.177.237 ( talk) 15:41, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Added in Viesturs's starring role in Hidden Expedition: Everest, a hidden object game released in 2007. Both he & his Everest footage are featured prominently in it. He does the voice-over as well. (For being an early release in the genre, it's actually a pretty difficult game. Try finding eggs, ice cubes, & shuttlecocks in snow.) ScarletRibbons ( talk) 22:29, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
Sources give both June 22 and July 22, 1959. Which is correct? I'm without Internet service for a couple more days and working from a phone at the moment, otherwise I would research this more myself. RacerX11 Talk to me Stalk me 22:44, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
It'd be sweet to add a picture of old Ed. I don't know how to do it without messing something up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.48.222.168 ( talk) 03:20, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
