I saw this listed as a new page under User:AlexNewArtBot/WaterbodiesSearchResult, of all things. The statement that "it will be the only opera house in the entire Middle East" surprised me. The footnote source certainly makes that claim. But according to List of opera houses there appear to be quite a few others. Some examples that have wikipedia pages include, in Egypt and Israel (which are definitely part of the Middle East): the Cairo Opera House and the New israeli Opera at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center. If Turkey is considered part of the Middle East there are many more, including Ankara Opera House and Atatürk Cultural Center. Another "maybe in the Middle East" is the Armenian Opera Theater. Perhaps the brochure referenced here is.. exaggerating? Pfly ( talk) 04:01, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
It's dubbed an opera in its official name, but it remains to be seen if opera, in a western classical sense, will be a vital part of the performing schedule. Just heard the venue being discussed on BBC News and someone pointed out that there is no doubt some mileage left before they'd be likely to stage Rigoletto, Carmen or The Marriage of Figaro in Dubai.
