Mineral Status

Something seemed a bit unusual when I came to this page, since I spent a lot of time on the pyroxenes in college, and never once heard this "mineral" come up. So, I did some checking, and according to MinDat, it is not a valid mineral species, but is rather just an archaic name for a collection of minerals. While I appreciate the desire to use free resources like the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica, I do not think it should be at the expense of accuracy. Can anyone else who has a recent mineralogy text handy confirm or deny this? Baryonyx 19:58, Feb 3, 2005 (UTC)
