I'm not saying Derventio isn't actually 18 miles from the main site at Eboracum, but it's certainly not what the itinerary lists and we should address that. —  LlywelynII 04:39, 20 February 2015 (UTC) reply

  • I think that number was taken form the Ottaway, Roman York text. Taking an NGR at the principiae of Eboracum(SE 60325 52182) and Malton (SE 79139 71738), gives a linear distance of 27.14km = 16miles, 1520yds; which, I concede, is just over an imperial mile short of the advertised distance. I suspect Ottaway was using modern site-to-site with a different central reference point. I'd be hugely sceptical of using the Itinery as a basis for measurement, given its issues.
