We need talk of standards and a more generic discussion and name for all this stuff, to incorporate the various approaches e.g. as described at [1], including these:

There's no mention of the severe restrictions on browser compatibility imposed by the various versions of the DRAC. My experience with DRAC 5 and 4 is that browser compatibility is very spotty, and that generally there are things that are broken even if you're using the preferred version of Internet Explorer on Windows. Trying to use Firefox on Linux or another architecture is very hard and generally broken.
I'm going to look for the officially DRAC browser list and add that to the article.

May I suggest this link as a starting point for a section about the DARC hardware http://blog.ignoranthack.me/?p=86
According with the author, who hacks a little bit the device "Dell DRAC 7 seems to be nothing more than a fancy OpenWRT instance running on a Hitachi SH4A 32bit microprocessor". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ros975 ( talk • contribs) 15:11, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
Removed the claim of the technology being based on a specific patent as it was based on the author´s interpretation of a primary source alone, as per WP:NOTRS: "All interpretive claims, analyses, or synthetic claims about primary sources must be referenced to a secondary source, rather than original analysis of the primary-source material by Wikipedia editors."

I have discovered some supporting information that can easily be corroborated by anyone who can launch a hex editor. The statements by another that the IDRAC seemed to be nothing more than a modified WRT device can now be considered false.
The IDRAC 6, and most likely the IDRAC 7 are VxWorks QNX Linux with a U-Boot bootloader running on what appears to be an ARM SOC or simular inside the server. Anyone who would like to verify this, simply download the firmware image for the IDRAC 6 version 2.90, and then load the file in a hex editor and scroll down near the bottom of the file. You will find the U-boot bootloader, and a lot of the plain-text, human-readable data there in the string table clearly referencing the VxWorks bootup processes, you will find the following string that seems to shed the most light "NetBSD Linux VxWorks QNX U-Boot"
Other systems that use VxWorks are sonicwall firewalls, some Dell Powerconnect switches and Powervault units, and many NASA projects as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.124.84.19 ( talk) 06:11, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Can I suggest that part be replaced with "over an IPv4 or IPv6 based network" ? Hanging your server's console on the internet directly is not recommended. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Criggie ( talk • contribs) 02:05, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
