I'm wondering if the writer of this article is a native English speaker because apparently Daphne came to America three times and she was either 6, 15 or 16 years old. It's a bit confusing.
I just saw her in a 1933 Vitaphone short with Shemp Howard called The Big Flame and that's why I did a search for her. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danpetitpas ( talk • contribs) 20:08, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
I too have problems with the dates. Most sites accept 1892 as Pollard's birth year, and I have revised the page in accordance with this date.
BUT the IMBD entry gives 1891, which would concord with her giving her age as 16 in August 1907 (well, a couple of months early, since she was born on 19 October). This would also match her leaving the Pollard company that autumn (er, fall) when she reached the age of 16.
HOWEVER, her grave (photographed here), which is inscribed "Daphne Pollard Bunch / beloved sister", gives her year of birth as 1893. Since actresses of her generation not infrequently adjusted their ages -- Rosalinde Fuller (1892–1982), who shared the Folies Bergère stage with Pollard in Zig-Zag! (1919), dropped all of nine years off hers -- there is a fair chance that Pollard did so too. But this implies that the sibling who worded the gravestone colluded in the deception. I have searched for a record of her birth (as Trott), without success.
