Turns out that someone messed up and did a cut-and-paste from Dan Walker (sports journalist) into Dan Walker in 2009 also, instead of a proper move. I've marked that other article for repair and move back to Dan Walker (sports journalist). Once that happens, then we can make the disambiguation page like should have happened to begin with. -- Closeapple ( talk) 02:42, 8 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Walker's Election

I recall that Walker's nomination and election were a surprise. Some federal court required Illinois to permit crossover voting in primary elections. (Previously, one had to be a member of a party for something like two years before being permitted to vote in that party's primary. The invalid law was later rewritten.) As there were no interesting contests on the Republican side, many G.O.P. voters took Democratic ballots and thus helped nominate several "maverick" types -- including Walker -- over Mayor Daley's hand-picked candidates.
