Article is Not Accurate
The following link has the complete translation of the letter from the pope to the Khan. The pope is trying to spread religion and does not ask for peace, but for the good treatment of the bearers of the letter. Also, the Mongols knew a great deal about Europe as they had the best spy network in the world at the time. The Khan even had a christian wife. Please see the excellent series by Dan Carlin about the Mongols

There needs to be a source for this. All that can be found is sources with peace and subjection as separate words. — Preceding
