The article gives two definitions, but I'm not entirely clear on what they mean, or what the modifier "criminal" is intended to mean in them. As I understand it, in common-law jurisdictions at least, the term "criminal libel" distinguishes libel that constitutes a criminal offense from libel as a tort prosecuted in a civil suit.
