S.A.Coons taught the graduate computer graphics series at the University of Utah my second year there. His "little red book" is his best reference where he also discuses the best length for a cubic Hermite curve (given it is a quarter arc.) Also he demonstrates the rational mapping of a quadrilateral to another. He was a scholar in brevity. The use of the 'C' operator | for Boolean sum is forced because I failed to find the circumscribed + in the symbols. Its more right too.

The lay reader whose experience is remote from mathematics may read that and wonder if it's about labor unions. If this is on some aspect of applied mathematics that should be made clear in the first sentence. Even someone like me who understands the first sentence has no idea what the article is about after reading it.
Then:
At least this begins to make clear that mathematics is what it's about. But nothing yet on what a Coons surface is.
This doesn't say who Coons is. A 17th-century astronomer? A 19th-century chemist? A 16-year-old mathematical prodigy who was on TV last week?
The article doesn't mention that "Coons' problem was to describe car surfaces" until after going through some mathematical formulas and saying what Coons did with them. Thus it may lose many readers before they have a clue what the article is about.
The term "Coons surface" never appears in the article, except in the title.

Coons' Contributions were the lofting projectors and the Boolean sum. Seeing an application of univariate interpolation in 2 variables was smart. Formulating the 'or' of projectors from the composition of the remainders was brilliant. Your treatment hides more than it reveals. Fflittle ( talk) 02:54, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
