started page Feb 8, hope to have the major work done in a week. I know there is already a topic American Civil War spies but it covers a fraction of the different secret Confederate operations. Thatcher131 00:23, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm still working on it, don't worry it's not abandoned. I 'm not sure I like the way its organized so I'm working on a revision in my user space and will put it here when its done. Thatcher131 14:12, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, I got distracted by the goings on of wikipedia in general (addicted is probably the better term). But I've sworn off any further edits in the Wikipedia namespace until I finish this article. I am conflicted about exactly how to organize it because at the time, as far as I can tell, the term secret service was only applied to the bands of irregular saboteurs that were authorized by the Confed Congress in Feb 1864, and to the Canadian operation between 1864-1865 financed by Richmond and run by Clement Clay and Jacob Thompson. However there were many other forms of secret activities that were part of the war or state department, like Bulloch, the torpedo bureau, etc. and I'm not sure how I want to organize the article and which topics I want to cover. I know the most about the saboteurs and the Canadian ops but I don't want to ignore the rest. Thatcher131 13:17, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
"In 1862, possibly following a suggestion from Sage, the Confederate Congress enacted a bounty of fifty percent of the value of any vessel destroyed by means of a new invention." but Sage isn't named. -- AW 17:22, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
I watched something on this group on the history channel last week, they were talking about the assignation of Lincoln and spies on both sides of the conflict and found it interesting that no one has mentioned them on Wiki let alone have written an article about them.
I'm currently trying to get some hard copies of something to back up what I got from the history channel show, once I get something I will post it to the article on the group which I plan on writing. If I turn up missing maybe they got me, lol, anyway please don't delete my contribution, I'm working on getting the facts to back it up.
