The road is also an informal boundary between the City of London, the financial centre of London, and the East End of London, which has conspicously less wealth.
Surely trad East-End 'Petticoat Lane', to the WEST of Commercial Street, is a more likely boundary.
I agree with you. Commercial Street is almost entirely in the majority Tower Hamlets part of Spitalfields (except for the southernmost bit, which is in Aldgate). It's a definite East End street. I am about to add a pic to this piece, being on missing pic detail, so I will correct (and expand) the copy too.
