... that five
peregrine falcon chicks were released from the roof of an office building in an attempt to help save the species from extinction? Source: "Five peregrine chicks arrived Saturday. They'll be placed in a special 'hack box' atop the former Colonial American Bank building at Campbell and Jefferson in downtown Roanoke."

Article was expanded 5x, the hook is interesting. It's not quite cited to the article (which doesn't talk about extinction, just about endangeredness). The article of
peregrine falcon itself says it was "endangered over much of it range", so possibly not at direct risk of extinction. Can you propose an alternative hook? Maybe including the pidgeons? (not strictly part of DYK review, but I noticed that the last paragraph of the lead is cited to a 2018 source. How can it contain information about 2023?).

Femke: Thanks for your review. The year in the lead was an oversight - I've been updating the Roanoke city article and inserting too many as of 2023 templates. Thanks for the catch. As for the hook, my initial thought was to center it around the pigeons and I changed my mind. How about:
Alt 1... that five
peregrine falcon chicks were released from the roof of an office building in part to combat against an overpopulation of pigeons?
Or another option,
Alt 2... that five
peregrine falcon chicks were released from the roof of an office building in an unsuccessful attempt to combat an overpopulation of pigeons?
Both options work. I think ALT2 is the more interesting one. For future reference,
WP:DYKINT says hooks should ideally be mainly about the topic of the article you'r linking. In this case, I think this is the most interesting bit about the building, so I'm perfectly fine with it. Maybe describe the office building as "office building in Virginia" instead? (P.S.
