What is the Linden campaign ? Could this be the Battle of Landen (1693) ?
"Three Guards companies of 307 men under Coldstream commander Colonel Matthew fought in the American War of Independence." This is extremely misleading. No entire companies were detached. Entirely new companies were created by drafts from the existing regiments of Foot Guards. In its original form, two entire companies and parts of three others of the composite battalion had Coldstreamers. I'm afraid a more comprehensive article on the Guards in the AWI is needed. Give me time, please. Malbrook 21:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I am not aware that there was an army mutiny on 6 January 1661, but an attempt to seize the City of London by Fifth Monarchy Men led by Thomas Venner. If there is no objection I will change this.-- Streona ( talk) 19:03, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi,
I'm a button collector/dealer and I have come across some buttons that I'm told are from the Coldstream Guards.
Can anyone confirm it's from the Coldstream Guards? (Their official site isn't working.) I would've expected their motto or something on their button, and not just the Order of the Garter insignia. (Not that I'm an expert at all.) Thanks very much.--

Being an American, I probably never would have heard of the Coldstream Guards if not for an episode of The Andy Griffith Show in which a British character named Malcolm Merriweather (played by special guest Bernard Fox) mentions that he was a member of the Coldstream Guards, and Andy's character knows who they are. There should be a section at the end of the article mentioning this, call it "In Popular Culture" as many Wiki articles do, as this episode is rerun constantly in the over 50 years since it first aired & he's in at least one other episode as well. --- PhilOSophocle ( talk) 16:18, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
