I think there should be a small list of the plants and animals inhabiting the island. I would also think readers would like a map to see where exactly this island is. Great article by the way. HaLoGuY007 11:06, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
I agree that the previous version of the page read like a tourist brochure. However, some of that information is valid and factual, such as:
I reinstated most of the article but removed some of the language which might excessively praise the island. SkepticVK ( talk) 06:45, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi kwami. I understand your reticence in adding information which may be too promotional for the island.
Here are the main facts:
Although Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a tourist brochure as you point out, a good article should still cover the salient points of the subject, even if the points are favourable to the article subject. NPOV does not mean that positive traits are not described, it means that a neutral description contains all relevant traits.
Also, I think we can come to a reasonable consensus on the strength of the adjectives we use to describe the reef quality. Clearly the island is not an everyday reef, or it wouldn't have been made into a marine park.
To answer your other questions, all wikipedia articles have room for improvement. I add the facts that I've researched with reasonable descriptions. If you rightly feel that the article needs the island's history or geography, I would appreciate you adding it. But please don't delete material without doing a quick search to validate it.
For example, your question "what is this organization? What else do they do?" is easily answered at:
http://www.wwt.org.uk/text/436/chumbe_island_coral_park_.html
I've linked this source in the article.
Some other stuff:
'Gazetted' means it was announced officially, but we can change that to 'declared' since the word is mostly British.
