kinda short... Christopher Latham Sholes was my deceased husbands great grandfather. My mother-in-law, Elva LaVerne Sholes Fansler was his granddaughter. She actually resembled him. It is interesting to read history of family members and see what characteristics my children share with their family history. Thank you for the information. Diana L. McKay, Pittsburgh, PA
How could he have invented the typewriter in 1868 and continued development on it throughout the sixties, developing QWERTY in 1863? That's illogical.
This book maybe a good credible reference. I don't have access to the book at the moment, but the description is worth pinning here so that it can be followed-up and referenced in the article. -- Charles Gaudette 05:38, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

does anyone have pictures of diagrams that shole himself used? it would be really helpful to me. thank you
I've moved the article from "Christopher Sholes" to "Christopher Latham Sholes". The reason is that the name "Christopher Sholes" was not used in his time, and is a modern invention. (The equivalent of abbreviating George Bernard Shaw to "George Shaw", or Arthur Conan Doyle to "Arthur Doyle".) It does have some usage in recent books — Google Books has 630 results for it, versus 646 for "christopher latham sholes" and 619 for "c. latham sholes" and 677 for "c. l. sholes" — but most of the sources from his time use one of the other forms.
