Mechansim § indicates exhaustion of available oxygen which is incorrect. It is rather the increase in concentration of CO that results in poisoning as hemoglobin binds CO much more efficiently than it does O2. Also in other, presumably traumatic methods, it is the fear of the associated trauma that must be overcome, death is the same in any case. Also, I don't believe a suffocation reaction accompanies CO poisoning (as it does in C02 poisoning) when breathing is not impaired . 74.78.162.229 ( talk) 05:56, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Suicide by charcoal has been around a while. It is discussed in an 1844 novel, The Wandering Jew, by Eugene Sue, himself a physician, at Part III, Book IX, Chapters 31 and 32. Accidental death by charcoal is reported almost every winter in the papers, as unknowing people attempt to heat with charcoal. Since charcoal has been in use for very many centuries, one suspects that both the ignorance for accidental death and the knowledge for suicide have also been around a good while. As for the mechanism, Chapter 33 mentions that it is by toxic gas. Jm546 ( talk) 22:02, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Hello,
Please be a bit more careful and consider that Jonghyun's death using this method is circumstantial. There can not be any direct conclusions for Jonghyun's case, since his possible suicide heavily relied on the text messages to his sister, and the suicide letter sent to Dear Cloud's Nine9. The police would have needed direct evidence, such as video evidence or a suicide plan written on paper by Jonghyun (which was not found), to prove Jonghyun has in fact ended his life through suicide to conclude that it was indeed suicide.
Hope you understand.
