The PB4Y-1 (Navy version of the land-based B-24 heavy bomber) was flown by the VB-104 (aka VPB-104) squadron for patrols and bombing. I corrected that entry on the page, but though they may also be incorrect I left the other squadron types as PBY-4 (a variant of the Catalina flying boat used for patrols and rescue at sea). My father-in-law John Humphrey was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his exploits flying the PB4Y-1, and helped earn VB-104 an unequaled two Presidential Unit Citations. I've just been looking at his logbooks so I'm quite certain about the type of plane he flew. For more info, see the VP-24 (last descendent of VPB-104) wiki. As described there, Dad flew the older PBY before switching with many pilots of his squadron, to the new VPB-104 squadron flying the PB4Y-1. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jw4nvc ( talk • contribs) 02:26, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
