Confuses Students

The term cancel or cancelling confuses students and should "CANCELED!"

A recent NCTM discussion by many Math Instructors explains that the term is very confusing to many students, especially those with a lower skill level in math. It is used for vertical and cross reduction of terms in numerators and denominator, as well as, having terms add/subtract to zero.

Teachers need to use precise vocabulary with their students, the word "cancel" is NOT precise. TopCatMath ( talk) 18:09, 12 February 2023 (UTC) reply
