The birth date of 31 December is incorrect. My father was a colleague of Christopher's at Hull, and I shared the same birthday as Christopher - 8 October. He would often remind me of the fact, and always sent me a birthday card on our shared day. He was a lovely man. I remember a family visit to him and his parents (presumably at Midsomer Norton) where he happily allowed my siblings and me to play on his hoist in his bedroom. He had the most beautiful, neat handwriting. Obviously I don't have a citation for his birth date and it is purely anecdotal, but the erroneous birth date given in the article doesn't have a citation either ...
