I'm wondering how the average yearly sea temperature is 19.6°. The monthly temperatures are all greater. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JimmyPiersall ( talk • contribs) 21:02, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
Moved this section which was claimed to require rewording to conform to NPOV, from article, should be discussed on talk page:
Is it not also POV to say "there is a very(?!?!) strong community feel in Byron Bay..."?. Evidence, anyone? Oh, and also, don't delete my entry only to then paraphrase it ok?
Possible vandal added content" The town has a laid back and friendly atmosphere where recreational drug use is accepted and a part of town life. "
?? Mikereichold 05:32, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Maybe a bit on the POV side, but not vandalism. The area around Byron Bay has quite a decent population of hippies, New Age people, ect. (see
Nimbin, New South Wales) The police seem to turn a blind eye on soft drugs. --

I live in Byron ay. This line is not true "recreational drug use is accepted and a part of town life." Its NIMBIN that has a pot festival, not Byron, there are drugs here, like in all towns, but its noting like accepted and part of town life. You could visit our town, and never see anyone smoking or otherwise taking drugs, and you'd not find a dealer either.
Hi,
I publish a very popular and informative website about Byron Bay (been online for past 9 years)... http://www.byron-bay.com
It has been listed as an 'External Link' at different times....
I've looked at the history a couple times in the past and have seen it removed for being too comercial (it contains more generic information about Byron Bay than any website I've ever seen, but it is supported by local businesses who advertise on it)...
Recently I saw that it was listed again (I saw this listing a few weeks ago), today I see that it's been removed again.
This time - looking at the history I see that someone listed it a second time and both of them got removed...
Here's the link to the person I believe made the second post;
http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Special:Contributions&target=203.206.163.32 (the 3 Nov edit is where byron-bay.com was added again)
I believe this person (based on the areas they've edited) is a would be competitor who listed the website byronbayaccom.net (Byron Bay's largest accommodation booking website - no generic content, deffinatelly Byron Bay's most comercial website).
Should I be woried that my well respected website may be seen to be abusing your system?
Is there anything I can do to get my website listed as an 'external link'?
Is Wikipedia able to do anything to stop others for manipulating the listings?
If this isn't the best place for me to be asking these questions, could you point me in the right direction.
Cheers Rick Slater rick@byron-bay.com

You run a commercial website about Byron Bay, one of many. How is it relevant to list yours and not all the others? Its bad enough the commercial blog byronbay.org keeps getting re added, currently with real estate properties for sale right on the home page. If you are in possession of good Byron Bay information.. why not add it to Wikipedia? Other Australian cities have excellent travel guides eg. http://wikitravel.org/en/Sydney
The fact is Rick; you realize the Byron Bay Wikipedia page is both highly ranked, and lacking in content. You don’t wish to see this extra content added to Wikipedia, you want it left lacking, and a link placed to your site so people seeking this information will come and find it.... on your commercial site.
As long as your website keeps being improperly re added, I will keep removing it, you have no right to use wikipedia as a marketing tool, for a commercial website.
---
Hey Rick, from Wikipedia external linking guidelines:-
” Wikipedia is not a web directory; external links should support the content of the article, not replace it. An article should be more than a container for external links, and the content should not require the reader to leave the site to understand the subject.”
You should be adding more content to the Byron Bay Wikipedia page, not claiming your site has good content about Byron Bay and deserves a link.
---
Excellent feedback - I didn't expect my website to be listed and not the others... I was trying to point out that others were being listed - AND, the way it appeared to me, others were making sure my website would NOT be listed.
I have added images in the past, and will look to add useful content in the near future.
Keep up the great work —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.170.184.221 ( talk) 10:31, 5 November 2007 (UTC) ---
Good, then you will appreciate that your website has again been removed after being improperly added. Its a commercial website, and does not deserve a link from wikipedia, or otherwise all commercial websites should receive one. And please don't claim someone else is innocently adding your website - it almost never happens on wikipedia —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.229.251.163 ( talk) 22:55, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
What are you so worried about? Noone takes Wikipedia seriously anyway unless they're 12. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.164.18.239 ( talk) 21:30, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Under the title "Location" is written:
"The Cape Byron lighthouse was opened in 1901, and has the most powerful beacon in Australia (2,200,000 cd, visible to a range of 27 nautical miles or 50 kilometres).[2] The lamp used is 1000 watts 110 volts, and was installed when 240 volts AC power was made available to the cape in 1959. Prior to this, the 4 ton Fresnel lens assembly that floats in a 12 inch moat of mercury, had to be hand cleaned weekly to remove soot formed by the old pressure kero lantern."
First, I don't think that the lighthouse has anything to do with the town's location. Perhaps the lighthouse should only be mentioned in passing in this section and a new subheading 'Cape Byron Lighthouse be created'.
Second, if you think we should keen this information, where is the source for the '4 ton Fresnel lens assembly that floats...etc'?
Third, should 'Fresnel' be capitalised?
Fourth, should 'kero' be made 'kerosene'? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Captain hoek ( talk • contribs) 19:16, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

I am going to create a new subheading 'Cape Byron Lighthouse' underwhich lighthouse trivia can be added... - does everyone agree? ( Captain hoek ( talk) 21:56, 8 September 2008 (UTC))
Deleted unverifyable, content that talked about 'hippie' 'free love' anti capitalist culture and used words like 'touristy'. Not only were there no references it was 'amateurishly' written. Deleted the lighthouse gibberish as above.( Captain hoek ( talk) 01:28, 15 September 2008 (UTC))
Where are they? ( Captain hoek ( talk) 01:28, 15 September 2008 (UTC))
In my humble opinion “Cape Byron” should not be merged into another article. As one of the extreme points of earth this in a significant geographical place and thereby deserves an article of its own, if merged it would (like for example Punta Gallinas in Colombia merged into “Department of La Guajira”) disappear and hard to find. I'm not sure that its correct to label the volcano as Tweed Volcano. Locally its known as the Mt Warning Caldera or the Aboriginals have called it Wollumbin. Can someone with some science look at this? Joannebvc ( talk) 01:03, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
