Re: Proposed merger into this article
I oppose the proposed merger into this article for various reasons.
1. This article is poorly written - actually, this article should probably be merged into
History of Myanmar - it seems like this article is a possible POV fork of that article
2. This article title is a poor container for the other articles - for example, the Mon & the people of the Pyu were probably not ethnically Burmese
3. Some of the other articles are stubs, but there should, eventually, be a full article on all of the various states
I am proposing the merger of multiple articles into Burmese Kingdom-knowing it's a horrible article, but the bulk of the others are stubs, and it is a good place to grow them from, and catch information for the uninformed reader who doesn't know where to look. The only reason I suggest _any_ of these merges are there are so many little stubs, a larger more inclusive article would be better.
1) I like this point, and perhaps we should reverse the flow of the merge back into that larger history article, or conversely break up the article back into constituent articles. I would absolutely support that.
2) Burmese in this sense I think refers not to ethnicity but to landmass, and the major kingdoms that sprouted there. Were there a single Kingdoms of India page, certainly those would not all be the same ethnicity, either.
3) We at
Wikipedia:WikiProject Burma/Myanmar totally agree with you that they should be full articles. However, in the meantime, we are swamped under five years worth of poorly written stubs that reflect badly on this now pariah nation that so few know much about.
