I can't find any citations for the existence of this vessel. I'd like to know the year it was sunk, so I can fill in Mahoney's date of death, or year at least.

Internet sources seem to corroborate a previous edit's claim that Mahoney died serving aboard a differently-named ship. I've added more refs and details about this and corrected the vessel's name (SS Henry B. Plant, not USS) as part of a larger update to the article.
