When I ran into a link to this article, I did not expect a plain list of musicians ... BNutzer 16:23, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
This seems expanded enough I took it off the Project for expansion. Maybe that was premature, but I don't think so. At present this almost looks better than Brazilian jazz even though that's a commonly recognized sub-genre of jazz. (British jazz isn't per se) I mentioned Black British musicians towards the end as BBC did, however I'm not wanting to imply that before the 1980s it was all white guys or cause anything racial. I'm just repeating their observation, I hope no one minds.-- T. Anthony 07:02, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Did nothing happen over these two decades? Could someone please add something? 83.180.176.148 21:44, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
I think the problem is one of a lack of signposts - I have put up some sub-headings for groups of decades, in the hope of making this clear.-- Sabrebd ( talk) 11:56, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

I have started a section on this subject in the Musicians' Union (UK) article. The article as a whole needs much more work on it. Philip Cross ( talk) 23:55, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
User:Moraphica has added material to the page which gives undue weight to the (undoubtedly important) achievements of Joe Harriott, as well as adding material which is unnecessary, ungrammatical and misformatted. Despite requests and warnings, the user has failed to explain any of these edits, either in edit summaries or here. An explanation, and discussion with other editors, is needed. Ghmyrtle ( talk) 08:20, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
It has been felt for some time by black Jazz musicians in the Uk that the ground breaking free Form experiments and subsequent albums by Harriott have been marginalised in your account of British Jazz.Since Harriott's album predates that of Ornette Coleman's own experiments in this area it seems strange that there should be no mention of Harriot important innovations this area. Why do you feel that this is unimportant in the context of the time scale and a true overview of contributions to World jazz let alone British Jazz. After all the strong growth of the free scene in the Uk that has influenced many musicians from all backgrounds is currently enjoying a major resurgence throughout the Uk. You have also omitted the Indo Jazz Fusion period of albums that Joe Harriott helped to instigate with other important players. These are now widely acknowledged as some of the first recordings in the genre that became known as World music in later decades up to today. Why is that? Currently in the uk Music colleges students are complaining of being deliberately kept in the dark as to the historical contributions to Jazz in the Uk from people of the African Diaspora,Contributions that after all have benefited everyone interested in the rich tapestry of cultural and social influences that have made the music and scene what it is today. You have made a commendable start on this entry by including some of the names from the diaspora and we wouldn't expect you to name everyone from that background however it is important that contributions like these should really be acknowledged.( Moraphica ( talk) 09:06, 6 June 2012 (UTC)).
Thank you for responding to my points raised. I agree that my edits might seem in the context of your overall article to slightly over emphasise highlighting the achievements and the importance of Harriott's contribution to music on an International scale, therefore maybe you could edit something down into a more manageable presentation for this page.it would be a shame not to include something regarding these particular achievements. His innovations in Free music and World music have not to my knowledge been in dispute so therefore some acknowledgement here would bring balance to the work that you have already done.( talk) —Preceding undated comment added 11:28, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

I 'accidentally' inherited a jazz show on KPFZ-FM, and am doing a mini-series on CmcG. ... I was in the same place & time with Chris at least three times ... At Blytheswood (a mission station) c 1943, when he was in Umtata -- now [Mthatha]] -- high school c 1955, and in Cape Town c 1963. I also lived in a small village qumbu and knew his cousins.
