I would propose to move this page to Country house contents auctions in the United Kingdom, as the houses listed are not all in England. Jonathan Oldenbuck ( talk) 16:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Missing

Duke of Marlborough's Sale - 1884-5
Fonthill Sale - 1823 see William Thomas Beckford

An excellent source on earlier sales is:

  • Reitlinger, Gerald; The Economics of Taste, Vol I: The Rise and Fall of Picture Prices 1760-1960, Barrie and Rockliffe, London, 1961

- and Vol II of 1963 (on Objets d'art). I think relatively few important earlier sales were held in the country though. Johnbod ( talk) 05:01, 12 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Interesting page. I have both the Mentmore and Easton Neston catalogues, and one or two minor houses' catalogues from the 1950s if anyone ever wants to expand this and needs a ref.  Giacomo  21:50, 14 December 2010 (UTC) reply
