We will be sure that history records what Ms. Williams said about killing Bush.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Lorus77 ( talk • contribs) 19:37, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
These quotes, included as they are, by taking the two most inflammatory phrases out-of-context and seperating them by ellipses, does nothing to inform the reader and seems like a sensationalist attempt to paint her in the worst possible light. Ashmoo 23:52, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, I've read her comments in context, she is another person who apparently claims to teach tolerance of others, yets advocates the killing of those she disagrees with. I'd like to ask her about all the people and kids Saddam Hussein murdered. Of course in her world it apparently never happened, not even enough for her to mention it.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.177.109.97 ( talk) 03:22, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
I think it would be appropriate to at least give her entire statement. There's really no need for the ellipses, neither space or succinctness warrants them. That quip about U.S. law possibly being applied to an Irish woman speaking in Australia seems trite and partisan as well.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Muchennui ( talk • contribs) 23:44, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I've met Betty Williams while attending Sam Houston State University and I have immense respect for her and her beliefs and work towards making the world a safer place for children. I applaud her courage to speak out about my president, after all hasn't the entire american fight been about that exact freedom to have and voice an opinion??? I also applaud her move back to Ireland in 2004, my perception being that she couldn't swallow the insanity of this current war and this presidency. I know many Americans that feel the same way, this presidency hasn't made any sense since the very beginning with the vote count failing in the president's brother's state, how coincidental... And even the U.S. secret service understood her statements about killing the president were just a voicing of her complete frustration with the war situation and the president's apparent closed mindedness towards any alternate solutions. I am soo tired of this attack of anyone voicing an opposing opinion towards our president or this war by my country. Country western singers, nobel laureates even former Presidents, anyone brave enough to voice an opposing comment about President Bush or this war are attacked with vehemence as disloyal or unpatriotic. The entire American struggle has been to provide us the American people a safe and free place to live and communicate. To help lead the world in seeking freedom through democracy and instituting human rights. But under this president if anyone dares speak against the him or the war he's created they suddenly lose those very rights the entire American experience has worked so hard to create. Under this president all the work towards rights for POW's and humane situations without torture, were tossed out the window. Where are the news anchors of the 70's and 80's? the ones not afraid to ask the right questions and to report the real news? Why are the very few people courageous enough to fight for peace so quickly attacked with no media spokespersons courageous enough to point it out? Betty you keep it up maam you give me hope! At present, Community of Peace People and Community for Peace People (which is the correct name?) are redirects to this article. As this movement was founded by Betty Williams together with two other notable people, including a Noble prize winner, I think it would be more appropriate that the movement had its own article. – This is the clear primary topic among real people by usage (94% of pageviews) and significance (Nobel laureate). There's also a TV character with comparable pageviews, but I'm told real people are generally assumed to have primacy (and the character gets much less significant coverage in Google Scholar and Books results). Maybe suggest a mention in a hatnote (in hidden text here). Hameltion ( talk | contribs) 15:16, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
