Major Tournaments Section

I have changed the background colours of both the French Open and Wimbledon on the Junior Major Final tables, and both are now the colours universally used throughout wikipedia. For reference, see all other multiple Grand Slam title/final tables, and the colour schemes used should now match the scheme on this page. Additionally the parameter on the grand slam singles performance timeline entitled "Grand Slam Tournaments", I have removed this also as I don't feel it is necessary, especially given that the title "Grand Slam Performance Timeline" is already written in large font above the timeline itself. Hope these changes are alright with the admins. Thetradge ( talk) 23 April 2014, 2:12 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Belinda Bencic

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Belinda Bencic's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "wtatennis":

  • From Maria Sharapova: "Maria Sharapova". WTA. Retrieved September 1, 2015.
  • From Timea Bacsinszky: "Timea Bacsinszky Biography". 1 March 2015. Retrieved 1 March 2015.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 04:48, 24 January 2016 (UTC) reply

Swiss Miss

I like Belinda, but saying that she's going to become the new "Swiss Miss" seems to me to be POV. Does she have more right to this title than other female Swiss players like Viktoria Golubic and Timea Bacsinszky?

Playing Style

That is the worst playing style section I have ever seen on wikipedia.. She plays "Swiss" what does that even mean? She does not play similar to Hingis though.. Unfortunately I am not familiar enough with Bencic's game to update it, which was why I was looking for this section, but it really does need updating.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:140E:AB00:F833:C61B:BECF:4925 ( talk) 16:59, 21 January 2017 (UTC) reply

Early life and background

Junior career

  • "the first of which coming while she was still 14 years old." - at aged 14.
  • "Bencic became the first to win the girls' singles titles" - first player
  • "She was also the first Swiss girl to win a junior Grand Slam singles title since Martina Hingis in 1994," - try; She was also the first Swiss girl since Martina Hingis in 1994 to win a junior Grand Slam singles title.
  • "who won the same two titles that year." - I believe this section of text is redundant as the article is about Bencic and not concerning Hingis
    • I left it because it's natural for the reader to want to know which title(s) Hingis had won.
  • "Bencic's win streak was ended" - Bencic's run of victories

2011–14: Newcomer of the Year, US Open quarterfinal at 17

2015: Maiden WTA title, Premier 5 title, world No. 12

  • "She qualified for the WTA Elite Trophy, the second-tier year-end championship, but withdrew due to injury." - Was this because of Bencic's leg and hand injuries as mentioned in the previous sentence? If so than it will be to be added for clarity

2016–17: Top 10 debut, injury layoffs

2018–19: Slow ascent back into top 20, end of WTA title drought

  • "For the third consecutive year, Bencic was forced to miss a few consecutive months due to injury, this time because of a stress fracture in her foot. This injury kept her out from mid-March to late May." - I believe that these sentences could be more concise. How about A stress fracture in Bencic's foot sidelined her from mid-March to late May 2018.?

Trivial Slovakian pronunciation

She was born in Switzerland and lives in Switzerland. Why would we have a Slovakian pronunciation to see for our readers? It's not something anyone cares about, and certainly not in the lead. And the source using Bencicova is not really valid since the same type of sources also spell Serena Williams as Williamsova. Shall we put that in Serena Williams article? Her last name is Bencic. Fyunck(click) ( talk) 19:35, 9 August 2023 (UTC) reply

@Fyunck(click) Slovak is Bencic's mother tongue. It's necessary to show her native name and pronunciation. You don't care about it but people like me care about it. Serena Williams has nothing to do with Slovak. 下世荷兰人 ( talk) 11:42, 10 August 2023 (UTC) reply
If she lived in Slovakia it would be one thing, but we don't show linguistics because of different languages someone speaks. Think how many we'd have to have for Federer. Her name is Bencic, not Bencicova, she was born in Switzerland and lives in Switzerland. It starts to turn wikipedia pronunciations into a circus or farce.
