I fixed a bunch of minor punctuation and wordiness issues, and took out a few things that would be fine in a brochure for the camp but probably don't belong in an encyclopedia. This article should probably be reduced even farther, to about half or less its current length. The Chimney Corners camp stuff, for example, seems like a separate topic. I am currently reorganizing this page under the heading Becket Chimney Corners YMCA, which seems more appropriate for the inclusion of the entire organization. Any comments/suggestions welcome.

2 camps, 2 articles. a simple fix? I may flip this on copyedit. duff 09:27, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Hey guys, I don't really know how to insert changes or flag false statements (I'm old), but Becket isn't the oldest continuously operating camp in the U.S. There are plenty that are older---take Pine Island ( http://www.pineisland.org/) for example, which was founded in 1902, or Pasquaney, which was founded in 1895. Just a head's up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.173.74.77 ( talk) 17:18, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
The result of the move request was: no consensus to support a move. Ishdarian| lol wut 09:02, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Camp Becket →
Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA — It makes the most sense to have all these subcategories (Becket, Chimney Corners, BOC) under the umbrella organization.

Camp Becket →
Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA – Chimney Corners Camp is a separate organization from camp becket. The fact that Chimney is a subset of becket is evidence that sexism is alive and well in America. Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA is the official title of both organizations as they are represented in the YMCA group in America. The camps are brother and sister, but otherwise, they run independently. The girls camp should not be labeled as lesser or a subset to camp Becket.

I know that this move was already discussed but i feel very strongly that chimney corners either has its own separate wikipedia page or that the entire page is renamed to "the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA" and have two separate tabs one for camp becket with all of its information and another one for camp chimney corners with all of its information. Hey hey HO HO the patriarchy has got to go!!!
I see that this was discussed back in 2010, but I would suggest that contrary to whatever consensus was reached in 2010, it makese more sense to have a separate entry for Camp Chimney Corners. In the current format, the discussion of CCC seems subsidiary to Becket. It would be easy enough to create a separate entry, with very little downside. Roentgendoc ( talk) 01:39, 21 July 2018 (UTC)
When an edit is "undone", it is required that an edit summary be left, except in cases of blatant vandalism.
In an attempt to change this article from an "online brochure" into an encyclopedia article, I made a number of edits, which were promptly reverted by Jmansfield2021, who left no edit summary. I'm inviting that user to discuss changes to the article here on this Talk page. Keep in mind that I understand that other camps have equally promotional articles on Wikipedia, and am in no way attempting to create an unlevel playing field for Camp Beckett. Wikipedia must maintain its standards.-- Quisqualis ( talk) 17:28, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- Update information on reach
- Add information for joint section that applies to both Chimney and Becket
- Only reference campers as such Getsillymilly ( talk) 02:58, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
