In the first phase (the naval battle, 22 June 1372) only Castilian ships took part. Then began the second phase (a
siege, until August 23), where
Bertrand du Guesclin commanded the Franco-Castilian forces. --

My understanding is that the Castilians were the main part of the fleet but were assisted by small french craft joined in, quickly moving men around the bigger ships. can somebody check this? —Preceding

The bibliography on this battle usually refers to the same historical sources, and as far as I know, none of them mention French boats taking part in the first phase. Anyway, just in case anyone wants to look up on the chronicles... in French:

Volume III. Actually, there are only a few texts from the time about the battle, so historians can do little more than refer to them. --
