To threaten a civilian population with an artillery strike is a war crime as is entering a civilian crowd holding grenades in a threatening manner - both of which appear to have occurred when the Russian soldiers talked with the city's Mayor in the town square. A check of the video footage and the Mayor's talk to the crowd would need to be done. Perhaps this needs a mention in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7E:3421:9100:7157:2C26:3B77:ECF4 ( talk) 14:31, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
I might be reading the map wrong, but it seems to me that the western Russian forces have been destroyed.

Yes, they have been repulsed. I seem to notice someone tampering with the article, though. Doc Dimaus 3:58, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
A CBS News article today claims Russia has "not yet captured a city since invading." Elijahandskip ( talk) 02:00, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
This edit needs to be reverted, it was a mistake on CBS's part, Ukraine has regocnized the city as under Russian control for three days now. Thespearthrower ( talk) 03:49, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
I believe that the vast majority of sources recognize this as incorrect, and that the city is under Russian control. I would like to revert the change as per WP: Fringe theories. Thespearthrower ( talk) 04:11, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

I propose a merge of the encyclopedic content in Battle of Konotop (2022) to Northern Ukraine campaign. (I would have also suggested the Konotop article but all relevant information already appears to be there.)
The article title is very dubious, and appears in reliable sources just once
here: However, many on social media had begun praising the heroism of the people of the city in what has already been labelled “The Battle of Konotop”.
This quote speaks for itself regarding the origins and nature of this term. The fact that the creation of this article forced a parenthetical distinguisher in the title of the well-recognized
Battle of Konotop (1659) is regrettable.
The events described in the article do not constitute a battle and a separate article about them is unnecessary, as the few pertinent sentences here can be easily integrated into the target article. SaintPaulOfTarsus ( talk) 16:28, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
