As far as I can make out, his legal name was "Baden Powell" (i.e. his first name was "Baden" and his surname was "Powell"). Was "Harry" a nickname, was he generally known by it, and if so was he called "Harry Powell", "Harry Baden Powell" or "Harry Baden-Powell"? Proteus (Talk) 22:35, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
I'd prefer a disambiguation with words instead of dates. Baden Powell (mathematician), perhaps. Or we could just move it to Baden Powell and put a disambig notice at the top pointing to Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell. Proteus (Talk) 08:56, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Your readers might be interested to know that several years ago I published a monograph on Baden Powell: P. Corsi, Science and Religion. Baden Powell and the Anglican Debate, 1800-1860, Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 1988. The last part of the book reconstructs the debate on species in England before Darwin, and Baden Powell's role in it.
When I studied theology at university (in a time when Baden Powell was not considered of low importance in Anglican circles), we were told his name was pronounced approximately as Bahdun Pool. Does anyone have any definite, referenced information about this? It would be good to get it right in discussion. Sjwells53 ( talk) 21:38, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
