August Friedrich Schenck (1828–1901) was a German painter. This oil-on-canvas painting, entitled Anguish, shows a ewe grieving over the body of her dead lamb as they are encircled by
crows. The painting was acquired by the
National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, in 1880.
