Notability

We have a very long standing guideline on Idol articles. Essentially, until they become a top 12 finalist, they do not get an article. The only exceptions have been those with a notable career before American Idol, i.e. Jordin Sparks and David Archuleta. This is the guideline. Why was this guideline made? Because the vast vast majority of semi-finalists are not notable beyond American Idol. And even their notability on Idol tends to be very short-lived. And honestly, very very few have had notable careers post Idol. In fact, I can't think of any off the top of my head. And you know. Even the "finalists get articles" rule is challenged from time to time. For example, Alexis Grace's article was deleted per AfD during the season last year. In this particular case, I don't really see anything on her career before Idol that suggests notability. I don't see a record deal or any releases whatsoever. If she makes the final 12, then she should get an article. Before then, its simply pre-mature. All of the articles referenced are pre-show interview type articles. They don't demonstrate notability in and of themselves.

Its been suggested that we take this to AfD. Well first of all, we're not deleting the article. We're redirecting it to the AI9 page, which is where all of the semi-finalists pages go. And secondly, let's say she does make the final 12 or further. If she does and the article has been deleted, its going to be very very difficult to get it recreated. See Alexis Grace, which was deleted while the finals were occurring. It was recreated a couple of times but because it had gone through AfD and had been deleted already, the justification wasn't there to recreate it. I've been here for over 5 years. It's been my experience that once an AfD has been successful, its extremely difficult to get around it.

So for now I think the most appropriate thing is a redirect. -- User:Woohookitty Disamming fool! 08:35, 23 February 2010 (UTC) reply

And btw. The Grace example is a bit confusing. It does exist now but only as a redirect. Essentially, it was deleted through an AfD but I convinced the closing admin that it should exist as a redirect so he recreated it as just a redirect. The actual deleted content is only accessible for admins. -- User:Woohookitty Disamming fool! 08:44, 23 February 2010 (UTC) reply
