"Cables" is a much more accurate term, and will get rid of all the "wires/cables" confusion in the article.

This would be really interesting to see a little more of the mechanism that tensions the cable.
I am proposing that Arrestor cable and Arresting gear be merged into a single article, as they are on an identical subject. I do concede that the 'cable' article is specifically naval and the 'gear' article is more general, but the size of both articles does not require this to be dealt with on two different pages.
